THE CREATIVE CORNER

Choose a palette. Make it yours.

1. Start with three colors

Pick one main color, a second color for contrast and a lighter shade for the smaller areas. Try them on a spare piece of paper before you begin.

2. Build pencil color in layers

Use light pressure for the first layer. Add another pass where you want more depth, keeping a softer touch around the lightest areas.

3. Follow the shape

On petals and leaves, let your pencil strokes follow the direction of the shape. Rotate your paper when it makes a curve easier to reach.

4. Test markers first

Marker inks can bleed through ordinary paper. Test your materials and place a spare sheet underneath. Check that thicker paper is suitable for your printer.

5. Leave a little white

You don’t have to fill every space. White areas can separate colors and help small details stand out.
